Malawi Vocational School (years 7-12)
We recently began a vocational school (for school years 7-12+) in Malawi to teach basic life skills, enable students to find work and earn not only a living, but dignity in their own communities. The school runs adjacent to the bakery which was also started to foster self-sustainability amongst the Deaf.
Malawi Self-Sustainability Projects
Deaf Action started a sizeable farming program in Malawi in 2021 which began spectacularly but was unfortunately completely destroyed by cyclone Freddie (the longest and most powerful cyclone ever recorded) in early 2023. The project was not able to recover from it.
Ministry in Malawi and Mozambique
DMI began ministry in Malawi in 2015 when we partnered with an existing ministry to the Deaf. There are currently 9 churches that have been planted in Malawi, serving 100 Deaf members, with a strong emphasis on training new leaders and evangelists to take the Gospel message to other parts of the country and neighbouring Mozambique where a number of fellowships are also meeting.
DMI has a strong ministry through teaching sign language to the Deaf who have never attended school or learned sign language in Malawi & Mozambique.
