Located on the Eastern coast of Africa, Tanzania is one of the world’s poorest countries with 68% of the population living below the poverty line of US$1.25 per day.
Micro Loans Initiative
20 Deaf have received micro loans and started businesses ranging from retail outlets to agriculture to textiles to even a seafood business. These loans enable the Deaf – who would otherwise never be given a job – to not only have employment but to be their own boss and to live dignified lives. Loans are expected to be paid back within a couple of years, after which new applicants can receive loans and the process starts again.
Ministry in Tanzania
DMI has been supporting Deaf pastors and evangelists for many years in Tanzania. We are currently ministering to over 1100 Deaf every week in 27 Deaf churches and fellowships around the country which have been planted by DMI. DMI has also been working to train and equip new leaders who are able to continue preaching the Gospel message to people who would usually not have the chance to: the Deaf teaching the Deaf, DMI’s unique and hugely successful approach to Deaf ministry.
